IELTS  is one of the tests in which you need to score high bands as much as you can to get admission to international universities. To score well you have to plan the test duration very effectively not wasting much time. So here we are going to discuss time management of  2 Hours 45 Minutes in the IELTS. We will mention the tips to cover each section on time.

IELTS Listening Time  Management tips

  • Listening section of IELTS has 40 questions from 4 sections which have to be answered in 30 minutes. 
  • 1 minute will be given to you to read a set of questions. Make sure to utilise this 1 min fully by reading the given questions. It won’t be possible for you to read in dept and understand each point in this limited time of  1 min. Hence, without going too deep just quickly go through the given questions.
  • Identify the question and the keywords from the multiple-choice questions. Listen for numbers, names and milestones. 
  • Glance through the diagrams, maps and graphs. Note the headings and keywords. Remember details on the X and Y-axis.
  • For transferring your answers from your question paper to the answer sheet you will be given 10 mins. You should do as fast as you can and at the same time write carefully to avoid spelling mistakes.

IELTS Reading Time Management Tips

  • The IELTS Reading section has 40 questions from 3 passages which have to be answered in 60 minutes. The level of difficulty increases with each section. So one has to manage the time according to the difficulty level.
  1. The first passage should be assigned 15 minutes,
  2.  The second passage should be assigned 20 minutes 
  3.  The third passage should be assigned 25 minutes.
  • For each passage, allot 3-5 minutes to look for errors and to check if you have written the right answer against the right answer number.
  • Spend 5 to 7 minutes to understand the main points of the passage. 
  • Underline the keywords. This will help you while finding answers in the paragraphs easily.
  • Don’t take too much time for any single question. If you are not able to find the answers, then don’t waste your time and move on to the next question.

IELTS Writing Time Management Tips

  • In the Writing section, there are 2 tasks. In task 1 candidates are asked to describe, summarize or explain the given chart, table, graph, or diagram in the question and in Task 2 Test takers are asked to write an essay on a given problem or any kind of argument. You will have 20 minutes for task 1 and 40 minutes for Task 2.
  • For Task 1, assign 3 minutes to plan, 15 minutes to write and 2 minutes to check your answer.
  • Since Task 1 is simply descriptive, write down exactly what you see.
  • For Task 2, assign 5 minutes to plan, 30 minutes to write and 5 minutes to check your answer.
  • In the time allotted to planning, note down the main points, you would be writing in favour or against the topic.

IELTS Speaking Time Management Tips

  • IELTS Speaking takes between 11 to 14 minutes to complete.
  • The first part takes about 4 and 5 minutes to complete.answer all the general questions asked by the examiner
  •  The second part will take around 4-5 minutes. Here they will give you a topic to talk about. You will have 1 minute to prepare and will be given 2 minutes to speak about it. Don’t speak for less than 2 minutes as you will lose marks for it. After completion of 2 minutes, the examiner will stop you.
  • The third part of IELTS speaking is the continuation of the second part. This part of the test will get completed between 4 and 5 minutes.
