Documents required for the admission application process

If you want to study in any university in Italy, you need to meet certain requirements. You need to submit some of the important documents while applying. These documents serve as proof of your identity, skills, and nationality. Universities ask for documents depending on your study level and course of study. However, the following documents are required to study in Italy for international students:

  • Application Form: You need to fill and submit the application form before the deadline. Some universities offer online applications while some others offline.
  • Academic Documents: Copies of all certificates 10th, 12th & Graduate Degree (if applicable), Mark Sheets including Backlogs of the student. The final year or final semester mark sheet can be submitted later if you are currently studying in the final year of your bachelor’s.
  • Transcript: Transcript from your university may be asked by some universities. A transcript is a consolidated mark sheet available from the College.
  • English Test Score: Evidence of English Language proficiency (if applicable). 
  • GMAT or GRE: GRE is not required to study in Italy. However, if you have a score, then it always improves their admission chances. Submit standardized tests score e.g. GMAT, GRE (if applicable). Only some MBA programs may need the GMAT. Submit this score report too.
  • Recommendation Letters (LORs): Reference Letters may be required by the Institute. These could be from your employer/teacher from school/college. 
  • Photo: Two Passport sized photographs
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP): An SOP is an essay where you must show your interest in your previous academic journey, why a specific University, why study in Italy, your career goals, how will the course help you to achieve your goals, etc. 
  • Resume: Preferably one page that highlights work experience, educational qualifications, interests, additional courses, or activities you have done. 
  • Portfolio: Design Portfolio (it is only for Art, Design & Architecture students)
  • Extra-curricular Activities’ Certificates (if available)

Language requirements for universities in Italy

Language requirements vary according to university. You should check your university’s official website for its prerequisite regarding language proficiency. For English taught courses you will have to take English language tests and for Italian taught courses, you have to prove your efficiency in Italy. 

As for English proficiency, you should have the following minimum scores:

  • IELTS = 5.5 bands
  • TOEFL PBT = 507 to 557
  • TOEFL CBT = 180 to 217
  • TOEFL IBT = 80 to 99

International students who want to study in a program in the Italian language must show proof of a B2 Italian language level. There are various Italian language certifications, which are issued by universities, cultural institutions, and certified language schools in Italy and worldwide.

Requirements of Italian Student Visa

To move to Italy, international students need to obtain a student visa. For this, you need to submit a few supporting documents along with the application. Requirements vary depending on your nationality and what type of visa you are applying for, but this is broadly what you will need for a Student visa for Italy:

  • Passport - This must have been issued within the last 10 years, and it should at least have a validity of 3 months after your intended stay. It should also have a minimum of 2 blank pages.
  • Filled Visa Application Form with your 2 signatures
  • 2 photographs are to be submitted. 
  • Covering Letter - your Name, Purpose of a study visa, Who will bear the expenses, Travel dates, and duration of the stay
  • Receipt of duly payment of tuition fees of the Italian University
  • Accommodation letter
  • Documentation regarding your economy -Proof of means of support in Italy.
  • Overseas medical insurance - Medical insurance with a coverage of Euros 37,500.
  • Notarized no objection certificate by parents (In case of minor applicant).

Financial requirements proof for Italy student visa

For obtaining a student visa for Italy, you will have to present financial proof showing that you have sufficient funds to cover both your expenses while you study in Italy. Proof of means of support in Italy at least 448,07 EUR per month for the academic year, a total of 5824,91 EUR per year  There are a few ways to demonstrate that you have enough funds to study and live in Italy. Such as:

  • Bank statement of last 3 months signed and stamped by the bank. It can also be in the name of a family member.
  • If any other person is sponsoring your studies in Italy - The person who acts as a sponsor should sign a letter of commitment and enclose a copy of their ID proof
  • Students awarded a scholarship need to submit a copy of the Scholarship.
