Eligibility Criteria for Undergraduate Study in UK:

  • The very first thing that stands out in UK is 13 years of mandatory schooling before pursuing a Bachelor’s or an undergraduate degree. Many countries around the world, including India, follow a 12-year schooling system.

  • To eliminate this, students have to score really well in their secondary schooling and/or have to do a 1-year foundation course to be eligible for admission for undergraduate programs in UK.

  • If not a foundation course, students need to take an exam called Advanced Level Examination. To clear this examination, you will require excellent spoken and written English language skills.

  • The eligible students can apply to study in UK from UCAS (Universities and College Admission Service). UCAS is an organization responsible for the admission of international students in UK to almost all Universities and colleges.

  • One can fill the form online, or get it from the nearest British Council.

Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Study in UK:

  • For Masters in UK, students must have completed a 3-year equivalent to a UK degree program, some courses like B.E and B.Tech will have a four-year course. These are considered equivalent to UK’s honours degrees.

  • For postgraduate courses, the application process is done online on the respective University for which you have applied to. The applications are filled up and submitted along with attested transcripts and IDs on the official University website.

  • Universities in UK do not require GRE test to be taken. For management and MBA courses, GMAT is accepted. Other required exams might be IELTS, TOEFL or PTE depending on courses and Universities.

English Language Requirements:

The English Language Proficiency requirement may be IELTS Academic, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge English proficiency of level C2, or C1 advanced.

  • Sometimes, some universities in UK do not require these tests if the latest education, i.e. degree education is done throughout in the English Language as instruction and assessment language.

  • Some Universities offer Language Centre courses on the campus, just like intensive English Learning programs, for the students who are eligible with every parameter except English Language Proficiency proof.

IELTS requirements to study in UK:

Undergraduate Courses in UK

6.0 to 6.5 bands minimum required

Postgraduate Studies in UK

6.5 to 7.5 bands depending on course / University

 

Documents Required to Study in UK:

  • All the mark sheets, transcripts, and other previous academic documents are required.
  • Along with mark sheets and transcripts, a statement of purpose (SOP) is required. Statement of Purpose to study in UK should clearly state why the student has chosen the course and the university he has chosen, and how it will affect his short and long-term career goals.
  • A Letter of Recommendation is sometimes asked. A professor or teacher should write it, stating why the student is a perfect fit for the course and how he will excel in the field in the future.
